Every function you'll meet from here to the end of the course — polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric — is still, underneath, just a rule for turning one number into another. This unit is where you build the vocabulary for talking about that rule precisely: what it's allowed to do, how to read it from a graph, how to shift and stretch it, and how to run it backward.
